23 Sep 2011- NATO released the STANAG 4586 UAS Interoperability Standard, Edition 2, Amendment 2(Download here) as a publicly available and free document for all to use. As the most widely fielded interoperability standard- used by systems such as US Army Grey Eagle, Shadow 200, US Navy Firescout and UK Watchkeeper- this standard represents the best choice for interoperable solutions.
17 February 2011- Although the STANAG 4586 Edition 3 document has been declared an open document, the document itself still contains the previous NATO Unclassified markings which are causing confusion within the community. As a result, we have been requested by the STANAG 4586 Custodian to remove the document from our website at the current time until they can provide us with a document with classification markings that reflect the new, open status. This document is expected to be provided by the beginning of April 2011. Please check back here at that time to obtain a copy of this important industry standard. We apologize for any inconvenience.
The VSM is availble for your use provided your company is located within a NATO country. The VSM works with any STANAG-4586 compliant control station that you wish to use to control a JAUS compliant datalink, vehicle and camera. The VSM is also useful if you have a JAUS vehicle system that you wish to be interoperable with a STANAG CUCS.

These are low level, message based tools that have been developed in support of the JAUS VSM. The STANAG-4586 test tool supports all transmission of all STANAG uplink messages and the receipt of all STANAG downlink messages. The JAUS test tool supports the transmission of a sub-set of downlink messages and receipt of a sub-set of uplink messages. This sub-set is sufficient for basic datalink, vehicle and camera control and can be extended upon request.
